coating Mosin nagant barrel

I have a customer that would like the Barrel of his mosin nagant coated. Wondering if the heat cycle will affect the integrity of the barrel?

No it will not. You should not powdercoat a barrel though. Cerakote it. You also need to know what can and can't be blasted because there is a lot of DO NOT blast areas on guns.

Because it's going to keep the heat inside the barrel, because the thickness can seriously screw up some tolerances, because Cerakote is much better for a gun. You're crazy to take this on if you don't know what cannot have even a speck of media hit it. Just because it is metal, and you can powder coat it, doesn't mean you should.

I've PC'd a few Barrels... and other parts as well. Just mask the sensitive stuff and blast carefully. Coat as minimally as possible, and don't mess up any tolerances. I've done Shotguns, and I've done Competition Rifles... No big deal. Unless you are shooting for a long period (POpping off a box full of rounds in a half hour or so) the barrel still dissipates heat enough it's not a problem. If you are doing combat with the gun, use cerakote or something similar. A few shots, no big deal, and hour at the range going non-stop... that's a problem. Cool thing... an AK hs a pin to dislodge shells that get stuck from heating up... Most other guns just aren't expected to be used that way.

Lol a Mosin is a bolt action fed with a stripper clip. Rate of fire is not a concern. Yes ive built enough guns to know where the tolerances are. I guess im crazy.
