Removing old logo from Stainless Steel tumbler

Post by david9h » Wed Dec 26, 2018 7:37 am

Hi All,
I've got a customer that wants me to remove an old logo from his Yeti tumbler and re-powder coat with a new design. I tried Acetone and it didn't budge. I can't sand it off because the new design and the old logo will overlap and the new design will be left stainless. I obviously don't know what the old design was put on with. Anyone have some experience with such a removal or suggestions on what to try next?
Thanks,
David

I think that he is implying to buy a new cup for $30, and work that into your price. Beats wasting time if you can't get it off without screwing it up. A razor blade won't remove it if you carefully pick at it?

I tried gas for a couple of hours and that didn't work, but then tried degreaser for a couple of hours and the design slide right off. Yay!

I would not do this for a customer I could strip it but i wouldnt drink from it after stripping so i would not do this for a customer either i would make customer bring me a new cup this is exactly one reason i dont do cups anymore they are way too time consuming and i rarely make average shop rate when doing these cups as cool as they are
